Kit Scientific Publishing is an academic open access publisher founded in 2004 as part of the KIT-library.

Peer review info

As an academic publisher, KIT Scientific Publishing attaches particular importance to the high quality of the scientific works it publishes. All publications by KIT Scientific Publishing Publication therefore must have undergone a thorough peer review process. Since KIT Scientific Publishing exclusively publishes titles from researchers affiliated to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) the peer review of our publications is executed by the academic community which also is in charge of assigning external reviewers. KIT Scientific Publishing reserves the right to reject publication proposals from authors who are not affiliated to KIT and where the quality of the publication can therefore not be assured. All KIT affiliate researchers pledge to adhere to the KIT rules for safeguarding good scientific practice (see http://www.kit.edu/kit/english/14938.php). The rules state that reviewers of scientific work shall use a transparent evaluation system and retain their independence as examiner/s. This shall also include unprejudiced evaluation. Further, scientific publications shall a) completely and reproducibly describe the results, b) completely and correctly document own preceding work and preceding work of others by quotes and references, and c) repeat previously published results in a clearly marked form and to the extent required for understanding the context only. Authors of scientific publications shall always assume joint responsibility for the contents. Author only shall be a person, who has made a major contribution to a scientific publication. A so-called “honorary authorship” shall be excluded. Neither the position of Head of Institute and superior nor the position of former superior alone shall justify co-authorship. This means that authors of a scientific original publication shall be all those, and only those, who significantly contributed to the conception of the studies or experiments, to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of the data, and to the formulation of the manuscript and who approved of its publication, i.e. persons who share the responsibility for this publication. The authors shall jointly ensure that no co-author was ignored and that all authors have approved of the version of the publication submitted. For doctoral theses, apart from the author, the supervisors shall also be responsible for compliance with the rules for safeguarding good scientific practice in use at KIT. The supervisors give the author their comments and feedback after a first review. The author then has a chance to defend or agree with any criticisms or suggestions made, and, if necessary, make revisions to the original submission. KIT Scientific Publishing will only consider the publication of the thesis after acceptance of the manuscript by the supervisors. For KIT Scientific Publishing titles appearing in book series, the editors select which titles fulfill the series quality requirements and thus may appear in the book series. For the "Journal of New Frontiers in Spatial Concepts", the official e-only journal of KIT Scientific Publishing, articles are only published after peer review by an international editorial board (see http://ejournal.uvka.de/spatialconcepts/editorial-board/editorial-staff).

Abstract

The influence of the cell size of mobile communication networks onto the exposure to electromagnetic fields is investigated in this work. The exposure is assessed by means of a radio network planning. In a novel approach the path loss for the coverage and the path loss for the exposure are distinguished. The developed model is applied to different wave propagation models and cell structures. The results are discussed.

Abstract

In der Anwendung von Z-R-Beziehungen ist eine der Hauptfehlerquellen bei der Ableitung von Niederschlagsintensitäten aus Radardaten zu sehen. Eine Verbesserung der radargestützen Niederschlagsmessung wird durch die Clusterung der Niederschläge in Teilkollektive erreicht. Für die entstandenen Niederschlagsklassen wird anhand neuronaler Netze eine Abbildungsvorschrift zwischen Parametern, die aus dem Vertikalprofil der Reflektivität abgeleitet wurden, und der Niederschlagsrate entwickelt.

Abstract

Nowadays drivers have to get along with an increasing complex visual environment in road traffic. There are not only distractions available within the vehicle, like radio, navigation system and passengers. The environment outside the car becomes also more and more complex. Car drivers’ gaze behaviour while being distracted is studied on the basis of some examples. Furthermore different performance indicators are analysed.

Abstract

Sonderforschungsbereich 461 ""Starkbeben : Von geowissenschaftlichen Grundlagen zu Ingenieurmaßnahmen"" von Juli 1996 bis Dezember 2007 an der Universität Karlsruhe. Forschungsfeld des SFB 461 waren Starkbeben mit einem regionalen Fokus auf den Vrancea-Ereignissen in Rumänien, wo sie immer wieder starke Schäden verursachten. Diese Risiken und die Gewissheit, dass Rumänien und seine Städte wieder von einem Starkbeben betroffen werden, bildeten die Motivation der Arbeit, erkennend, dass Schadensminderung mit moderner Wissenschaft und Technik sowie mit konsequenter Implementierung des Wissens möglich und aussichtsreich ist.

Abstract

Thema der Arbeit ist ein alternatives Anregungskonzept für organische Leuchtdioden, bei dem elektrische Leistung über isolierte Elektroden zugeführt wird. Dabei können Verlustprozesse vermieden werden, die der Entwicklung einer organischen Laserdiode bisher im Weg stehen. Untersucht werden die Ladungsträgerdynamik und die optischen Eigenschaften der Strukturen. Eine praktische Anwendung des Konzepts stellt die transparente organische Leuchtdiode mit kapazitiver Anregung (KapOLED) dar.

Abstract

In this work we suggest a meta access control model emulating established access control models by configuration and offering enhanced features like the delegation of rights, ego-centered roles, and decentralized administration. The suggested meta access control model is named ''Access Definition and Query Language'' (ADQL). ADQL is represented by a formal, context-free grammar allowing to express the targeted access control model, policies, facts, and access queries as a formal language.

Abstract

Als Beitrag zur Entwicklung von Röntgenlinsen liefert diese Arbeit erste Ergebnisse von achromatischen refraktiven Linsen zum Einsatz bei wissenschaftlichen Experimenten an Speicherringen. Es werden achromatische Röntgenlinsen studiert, entwickelt und getestet, die zum einen beim Einsatz an monochromatischen Quellen bei Variation der Energie, zum anderen beim Einsatz an breitbandigen Strahlrohren gebraucht werden.

Abstract

A short introduction to the theory of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is given. The application of the SPPs in on-chip signal processing is discussed. In particular, two concepts of plasmonic modulators are reported, wherein the SPPs are modulated by 40 Gbit/s electrical signals. Phase and Mach-Zehnder modulators employing the Pockels effect in electro-optic organic materials are discussed. A few micro-meter long SPP absorption modulator based on a thin layer of indium-tin-oxide is reported.

Abstract

Der Erstellungsaufwand multimedialer Lernangebote kann durch die Wiederverwendung bestehender Materialien deutlich reduziert werden. Wie aber kann das Auffinden solcher wiederverwendbaren Lernressourcen unterstützt werden? Der Autor stellt ein Retrieval-Verfahren vor, das SCORM-basierte Informationen zu Lernobjekten und Kursstrukturen entdeckt, analysiert und verwertet. Auf Grundlage dieser Daten werden für Lehrende als auch Lernende hilfreiche Such- und Empfehlungsdienste angeboten.

Abstract

In this work, an innovative real-time microwave control approach is proposed, to improve the temperature homogeneity under microwave heating. Multiple adaptive or intelligent control structures have been developed, including the model predictive control, neural network control and reinforcement learning control methods. Experimental results prove that these advanced control methods can effectively reduce the final temperature derivations and improve the temperature homogeneity.
