About

Since 1955, promoting learning, knowledge and research is our mission. In order to pursue this aim, we require accuracy from the authors, but adopt a neutral stance on the issues debated in our publications.
We publish about 250 series and 80 journals in print and digital format, regarding Business and Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Politics and Law, History and Philosophy.

Starting from 2015, we also offer gold open access publications with Creative Commons licenses, on the principle that making research accessible to everyone supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
All our open access articles/books are deposited immediately upon publication, without embargo, in at least one widely and internationally recognized open access repository.

Peer review info

We promote and oversee the use of peer review as a method of selection available to our editors for making editorial decisions and to our authors for improving their works.
Since 2013 we provide a digital platform for tracking the blind peer review process of books (FrancoAngeli Series) powered by Open Monograph Press (OMP).

Manuscripts are submitted to our editors, that make a first selection before sending them to the series chief editor for an “Internal Review”. If accepted, the manuscripts will be sent to one or two external reviewers, single or double blindly (depending on what is applicable in the field or in the series).
If the reviewer accepts the review request, he will be invited to fill an evaluation form for assessing: the scientific relevance of the work, the consistency of research results, the research methodology and the overall quality of the argumentation.
The outcome of the review process could be 'Accept submission', 'Request revisions', 'Resubmit for review' or 'Decline submission'. In all cases, authors will receive the anonymised reviewers' reports. In case of sponsored publications, their review will be based solely on the scientific value of the contents.

Abstract

"Economic and sociological research has long shown that the widespread presence of criminal organizations in the territory is a factor that contrasts economic and social development. This is just one aspect of the complex relationship that exists between local economic dynamics and the illegal behavior of social actors. The relationship between social norms and legal norms, the quality and quantity of social capital, the bonds of trust between the actors and the legitimization of the state, the local power systems, the certainty of the sanctions, are other aspects that certainly contribute to create the conditions that favor illegal responses to the crisis. The book seeks to highlight how legality and illegality present facets and interdependencies that can't simply be traced back to the moral categories of good and evil, but need to be analyzed in a multifactorial perspective."

Abstract

"Increasing inequalities, social exclusion and poverty within the EU (although at a different scale between States) prove that the effectiveness of social rights falls behind their formal entitlements and their judicial enforceability. Beyond the classical way followed by legal studies in dealing with the issue, the focus would shift to experimental ways better able to cope with the current multifaceted implications of social exclusion, poverty and inequalities for the purpose of effective and improved social inclusion. Indeed, legacies stemming from developments at the European level (recent and less recent) are relevant not only for policy-makers and social scientists but for legal scholars too. These latter are expected to pick up and underline the main aspects of constitutional relevance implied in the process and steer it towards being constitutionally consistent. Against this background, our claim for an interdisciplinary dialogue with social sciences focuses on the constitutional implications underlying the use of social indicators within the European governance framework."

Abstract

This book aims at describing pathways and achievements of the LLP Comenius Project “FAMT&L – Formative Assessment in mathematics for teaching and learning”. The main purpose of this research project was to encourage the use of formative assessment in the teaching-learning process carried out by mathematics teachers in lower secondary school. Through the voices of the several actors involved in this project, the book wants to contribute to the international debate on issues regarding teachers’ professionalism in the European school systems: specifically, on the development of the professional skills of teachers in the field of assessment practices and on the use of formative assessment in the classroom.
