Abstract

In this book we have chosen three thematic threads to go through the philosophical-theological thinking of Nicholas of Cusa and cross it with some motives of philosophical interrogation in this second decade of the twenty-first century: learned ignorance, language and dialogue. In learned ignorance lies a way of being in knowledge that deconstructs all certainties, but does not plunge us into skepticism. By language we say and say our appropriation of reality, a language that the thinker of the fifteenth century has always recognized as dynamic but also recognized in its fragility to adequately tell the truth and the world. If our way of inhabiting knowledge is learned ignorance and if the device we use to say it is language, then dialogue emerges as a space of thought, discourse and action: thought in dialogue, discourse in dialogue, action in dialogue become modes of realization of the project of a dialogical anthropology still today deeply present.

Abstract

The writing seeks to launch a critical and reformer look at the concepts of madness, mental disorder and mental illness, dominated by the 20th century psychiatry whose thesis is sustained in mechanicism, which defends that mental life can summarize physiology. With the philosopher Georg W. F. Hegel It is shown that madness is not a physiological defect, but a constitutive phase of the dialectical, rational activity of the spirit, whose freedom and infinity to self-conceive is not subject to the laws of physiology. With the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty, in a different register, but within the theme, we consolidated, now in the 20th century, that neither human consciousness nor human behavior are a series of automatic reactions, typical of causal thinking. We have finally completed these arguments with the critical thinking of a tradition of academic researchers in which Carlos Pires, Peter Breggin, Thomas Szasz or R.D. Laing, who deepened this relationship between philosophy and psychiatry.

Abstract

Despite the sharp decline in activity seen in recent years, construction continues to be an industry with a huge number of accidents at work, particularly in terms of the number of serious and fatal accidents. This book presents an in-depth view of the problem of safety in construction, taking into account above all the transposition into national law of the "Shipyard Directive" through Decree-Law no. 273/2003 of October, 29. The main aspects of the implementation of safety in construction are detailed, including the elaboration of the Safety and Health Plan (SHP) as well as the performance of technicians who carry out the designated Safety Coordination (SC).

Abstract

The veneration and worship of Queen Saint Elisabeth, in Portugal, started shortly after her death in 1336 and were registered in chronistic, hagiographic, biographical, notarial and other texts, that gathered abundant information about her life and miracles. Pedro Perpinhão, member of the Society of Jesus, who worked as a teacher, orator and researcher in Portugal between 1551 and 1561, wrote in Latin a biography about Queen Saint Elisabeth of Portugal, De Vita et Moribus Beatae Elisabethae Lusitaniae Reginae, that was the first in this language and the most complete work ever written. To compose it, he consulted all Portuguese medieval sources and used them exhaustively and impartially in order to be completely faithful to historical truth. This first Latin biography of Queen Saint' Elisabeth gathers all the knowledge of the time about her more than two centuries after her death.

Abstract

It presents the centenary essay of Simmel The Ruin, in a version of 1919 although the text originally appeared in 1911, and discusses the author's approach to aesthetics and the meaning of classical ruin. At the same time, the (post)industrial ruins are disallowed, which allows questions about the current hypotheses of the German philosopher. The ruin of Simmel argues about the conflict of nature with the spirit and the way the "revolt" of nature that generates the ruin, also produces peace and temperance. The treatment of Simmel presents general traces of the romantic assessment of ruin and is not immediate its approximation to the context of contemporary ruin resulting from human action (Incuria, degradation and wars). It is this industrial (post) ruin that is brought to the comparison and that by marking two consecrated cases of contemporary urban ruin – Aleppo and Detroit – makes highlighting the aesthetic order of decay in which the contrast with the ruin of Simmel gains sense and actuality.

From the school year of 2012/2013, all the information that was part of the "Life of the Faculty" section, of Biblos Journal has an autonomous existence in digital format. In this volume, information about the school year of 2017/2018 is gathered.
