Abstract

The publication presents a detailed architectural documentation and reconstruction of the impressive 1,275-years-old, three-story temple-palace of Santa Rosa Xtampak in Campeche, Mexico. The analysis of the 17 m high 50-room structure with two inner staircases revealed unusual construction principles and serious static problems preventing a planned high roof comb. The publication provides several architectural indications for different functions of the structure, which might also be used to study functions at other Maya buildings.Publication see: http://e-book.fwf.ac.at/o:1106

Abstract

The publication on the so-called „Temple of Hadrian" on Curetes' Street in Ephesos is the first comprehensive publication of this important monument from the Roman Imperial period in Asia Minor. Based on new research on architecture, inscriptions, and decoration, a contextual interpretation allows us to understand the temple in the context of the cult for the city goddess Artemis and ritual processions through the Ephesian city center in her honor.Text see: http://e-book.fwf.ac.at/o:1150Tables see: http://e-book.fwf.ac.at/o:1151

Abstract

This volume presents the results of a scholarly meeting which focused on the patronage of women in the Byzantine Empire. In their scope, the articles address broadly not only the founding or re-founding of churches and monasteries, but also their rich decoration, as well as numerous smaller donations. In spite of increased attention to gender research in recent years, a comparative treatment of the legal and economic potentiel that women in Byzantium could exercise in order to exert independent influence has been lacking; thus a gender-specific viewpoint for the volume was intentionally chosen.

Abstract

The ADMD3 approach presented in this book enchances the architectural design documentation of decision via reuse of design patterns. It combines the support for evaluation of pattern application, semi-automated documentation of decision rationale and trace links. The approach is based on a new kind of design pattern catalogue, whereby usual pattern descriptions are captured together with question annotations to the patterns and information on architectural structure of patterns.

Abstract

This volume consists of conference papers from the Vienna conference about Habsburg representation which took place in June 2015. The theme is the different forms of representation of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty in art and music from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. The many forms of representation employed are discussed in four sections, dealing with the themes and media used, with the relationship between ruler, state and nation, with the networks of the actors involved and with the relationship between ceremonial spaces and the diverse ‘publics’ being addressed.
