Abstract

Throughout History, networks of scientists and knowledge exchange have been formed, and scientific mobility has been promoted both at the level of the academy and at political level. In the 1940s the “Europe of mobility” began to be drawn through, among other things, the creation of centers of critical reflection, involving not only academics but also intellectuals and politicians, who would contribute to the design of a “Europe of Education” and, in a broad sense, of a Europe of Knowledge. In this context, this collective volume gathers original contributions that focus on education and citizenship; History books; the ERASMUS program, both the academic and the military; the European credit transfer system; memory and heritage.

Abstract

It sought to make the historical sketch of the legal regime of foundations, since the emergence of these in Rome, in the period of the principality, until our days. In this context, with reference to that first period, two modalities of the so-called non-autonomous private foundations were highlighted: food foundations and funerary foundations. The study of the Piæ Causae, which abated in the post-classical period and at the time Justinianeia, constituted the next step of our investigation. Then he continued his eyes on the Middle Ages. With the Reformation, first, and modern jusnaturalism, then the foundations lost their previous glow. And they actually ended up being convicted of some kind of legal clandestinity. It was necessary to wait for the last quarter of the 19th century to attend its definitive rehabilitation. Nevertheless, since then, and for about a century, the foundations were predominantly looked at, in the generality of the countries of the European continent, as remnants of ancient times, in which the idea of the social state failed. At one point, already in the last quarter of the 20th century, and like that all of a sudden, everything changed. The number of foundations grows exponentially, and other other than their typological diversification is being watched. Legislative interventions – such as modernisation or reform – are to be followed. The doctrine discovers the Institute and is in its study.

Abstract

This book addresses the conceptualisation and practice of multilateralism since the end of World War II and the current challenges facing it. It introduces a dialogic reading of multilateralism based on the reflection-action nexus and presents a set of contributions addressing the main actors and themes of multilateral practices. Building on the United Nations system and the promotion of international peace and security, other themes are also developed, including the European Union's relations with Russia and the African continent, the foreign policies of the US, Brazil and Portugal, as well as the new Asian economic order led by China. This work is a useful tool for research and teaching of International Relations in Portuguese language.

Abstract

In this work we try to make an approach to the shared history between two brothers countries and not always friends such as Portugal and Spain and the atlantic projection that has presided over much of its historical evolution and is also an essential part of its contemporary foreign policy. A dialogue that also acquires different nuances, since the same concept of atlanticity has different connotations for Spain and Portugal. From these various perspectives, Spain and Portugal continue to have an important mission in the challenges in today's world as interlocutors and transmission belts between different global spaces. This historical evolution and the new challenges of the atlantic world are intended to be addressed in the texts of the authors presented to them in this dossier and that address very diverse historical periods from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Facing the most diverse possible perspectives, whether political, geostrategic, economic, social and cultural.
