Abstract

This study deals with the fatigue behaviour of metal-matrix-composites (MMCs) having ceramic contents of 30 to 39 Vol-%. The MMCs where produced by way of infiltrating a ceramic preform by an aluminium alloy. The characterisation of the MMC's cyclic and fatigue behaviour was researched on the basis of isothermal and thermal-mechanical fatigue tests.

Abstract

Dynamical mechanical analysis is used to investigate the temperature dependent, anisotropic visco-elastic stiffness, damage induced stiffness degradation as well as physical aging of polypropylene and the anisotropic compression molded long fiber reinforced polypropylene. Based on micro-computer tomography data, the approximations of the linear elastic properties using the Mori-Tanaka method are presented.

Abstract

In this work experimental tests are performed to investigate the forming behavior of unidirectional non-crimp fabrics (UD-NCFs) within the context of an automated preforming process. Based on the experimental results, a macroscopic forming simulation model for UD-NCFs is developed and model parameters are identified via the simulation of material tests. The forming simulation model is validated via hemisphere and car body part forming tests.
