Abstract

This book studies air cargo capacity control problems. The focus is on analyzing decision models with intuitive optimal decisions as well as on developing efficient heuristics and bounds. Three different models are studied: First, a model for steering the availability of cargo space on single legs. Second, a model that simultaneously optimizes the availability of both seats and cargo capacity. Third, a decision model that controls the availability of cargo capacity on a network of flights.

Abstract

Service platforms have moved into the center of interest in both academic research and the IT industry due to their economic and technical impact. These multitenant platforms provide own or third party software as metered, on-demand services. Corresponding service offers exhibit network effects. The present work introduces a graphical modeling language to support service platform design with focus on the exploitation of these network effects.

Abstract

In dieser Arbeit wird erstmals eine aktive Fahrwerkregelung mit integraler Preview-Strategie vorgestellt, die für den realen Fahrzeugeinsatz und die damit verbundenen Randbedingungen konzipiert ist. Zur Generierung des erforderlichen Straßenhöhenprofils wird ein neues Sensorkonzept mit zwei optischen Vorausschau-Sensoren zur Abtastung des Straßenprofils entwickelt und zusammen mit einem neuen Algorithmus zur Aufbereitung der Rohmeßdaten im Fahrzeug dargestellt.

Abstract

This book examines Gaussian processes in both model-based reinforcement learning (RL) and inference in nonlinear dynamic systems.First, we introduce PILCO, a fully Bayesian approach for efficient RL in continuous-valued state and action spaces when no expert knowledge is available. PILCO takes model uncertainties consistently into account during long-term planning to reduce model bias. Second, we propose principled algorithms for robust filtering and smoothing in GP dynamic systems.

At the 37th Prandtl memorial lecture on Regions of Viccous Flow, H.Oertel 1994 developed for the first time the stability theory of local perturbations in boundary layers and wake flows, as well as their practical application in the flow control of vehicle flows and the boundary layer of civil aircraft wings.This work presents how the stability theory concept of absolute instability has advanced and proven in practice in the last 15 years in terms of the efficient flow control.

Abstract

Information flow control (IFC) is a technique to assert the security of a given program with respect to a given security policy. The classical policy noninterference requires that public output of a program may not be influenced from secret input. This work leverages a technique called program slicing, which is closely connected to IFC and offers many dimensions for improving analysis precision, the most powerful are Path Conditions. Our evaluation shows scalability with a low annotation burden.

Abstract

Modern cities cannot be imagined without traffic lights controlling the road network. To handle the network's changing demands efficiently, the signal plan specification needs to be shifted from the design time to the run-time of a signal system. The generic observer/controller architecture proposed for Organic Computing facilitates this shift. A two-levelled learning mechanism optimises signal plans on-line while a distributed coordination mechanism establishes green waves in the road network.

Abstract

This work proposes a combined and accurate simulation of wireless channel, physical layer and networking aspects in order to bridge the gaps between the corresponding research communities. The resulting high fidelity simulations enable performance optimizations across multiple layers, and are used in the second part of this thesis to evaluate the impact of fast-fading channel characteristics on Carrier-Sense Multiple Access, and to quantify the benefit of successive interference cancellation.
