Abstract

In der Kultur des Mittelalters nehmen Körper in ihrer äußeren Zeichenhaftigkeit eine zentrale Stellung ein. Dies gilt insbesondere für deformierte Körper, die aufgrund ihrer auffälligen Andersartigkeit immer wieder Thema wahrnehmungstheoretischer Diskurse werden. Das zeigt sich in zweierlei Hinsicht: Zum einen wird bereits in zeitgenössischen Quellen diskutiert, wie die körperlichen Besonderheiten den inneren Imaginationsapparat der Betrachter stimulieren, zum anderen zeichnen sich körperlich Deformierte zumindest in Kunst und Literatur auffallend häufi g durch gesteigerte Wahrnehmungsfähigkeiten aus. Die körperliche Deformation markiert dabei Grenzüberschreitungen. Sie weist über die Dinge hinaus auf ‚das Andere‘ – gleich ob es sich dabei um ein kulturell Anderes handelt, oder um das ‚Andere‘ der Diesseitigkeit: das Transzendente und Göttliche. Obgleich man für das Hoch- und Spätmittelalter kein einheitliches Körperkonzept annehmen kann, ist auffällig, an wie vielen Schnittpunkten der deformierte Körper ins Zentrum der Wahrnehmung rückt. Diese Vielfalt spiegelt sich auch in den Perspektiven verschiedener Fachdisziplinen, wie z. B. Kunst- und Literaturwissenschaft, Medizingeschichte, Dis/ability Studies oder Theologie in diesem Band, die den Besonderheiten des deformierten Körpers in seinem Verhältnis zur Epistemologie und eben zum "Anderen" gezielt nachspüren.

Abstract

In this work, new concepts of body-matched antennas for microwave medical applications were developed, where the antennas are placed directly on or in the human body. Two types of antennas were designed - on-body matched antennas for diagnosis and implantable antennas for data telemetry with the main focus of miniaturization yet maintained a high radiation performance. The applicability of the antennas was verified using a medical imaging system for the detection of hemorrhagic stroke.

Abstract

The dimensional accuracy in the body-in-white manufacturing process is analysed, basically confirming the simulation scope already in use. An enhanced prediction approach and a visualisation tool enable a precise and cost-efficient mapping of stamped parts deviation. As a result of joining operations parts can be deformed plastically, questioning the practical use of elastic tolerance simulation. A modified approach is presented based on the rigid body tolerance simulation.

Abstract

This book describes the development of a new method for personalisation of efficiency factors in partial body counting. Its achieved goal is the quantification of uncertainties in those factors due to variation in anatomy of the measured persons, and their reduction by correlation with anthropometric parameters. The method was applied to a detector system at the In Vivo Measurement Laboratory at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology using Monte Carlo simulation and computational phantoms.

Abstract

Contemporary power manifests in the algorithmic. And yet this power seems incomprehensible: understood as code, it becomes apolitical; understood as a totality, it becomes overwhelming. This book takes an alternate approach, using it to unravel the operations of Uber and Palantir, Airbnb and Amazon Alexa. Moving off the whiteboard and into the world, the algorithmic must negotiate with frictions—the ‘merely’ technical routines of distributing data and running tasks coming together into broader social forces that shape subjectivities, steer bodies, and calibrate relationships. Driven by the imperatives of capital, the algorithmic exhausts subjects and spaces, a double move seeking to both exhaustively apprehend them and exhaust away their productivities. But these on-the-ground encounters also reveal that force is never guaranteed. The irreducibility of the world renders logic inadequate and control gives way to contingency.

Abstract

Interactive physically-based simulation of rigid bodies and deformable solids is an important and active research topic in computer graphics as well as an essential part of many applications like virtual prototyping, computer games or training simulators. This work presents interactive simulation methods for multi-body systems, cloth and incompressible deformable solids. Furthermore, GPU-based methods are introduced which accelerate the simulation significantly.

Abstract

This work presents an approach to data-driven motion generation for humanoid robots, which is based on the observation and analysis of human whole-body motions. To this end, we investigate how captured human motions can be represented, classified and organized in a large-scale motion database. The statistical modeling of the transitions between characteristic whole-body poses enables the subsequent generation of multi-contact motions.
