Abstract

This work is concerned with the simultaneous tracking and shape estimation of a mobile extended object based on noisy sensor measurements. Novel methods are developed for coping with the following two main challenges: i) The computational complexity due to the nonlinearity and high-dimensionality of the problem and ii) the lack of statistical knowledge about possible measurement sources on the extended object.

Abstract

In this thesis the implementation of the explicitly correlated coupled-cluster singles-and-doubles model is presented. This tool is capable of efficiently calculating CCSD energies at the basis set limit with relatively small orbital basis sets. The implementation supports RHF, UHF and ROHF reference wave functions. The usefulness of the developed tool is illustrated with selected chemical applications.

Abstract

State estimation techniques for centralized, distributed, and decentralized systems are studied. An easy-to-implement state estimation concept is introduced that generalizes and combines basic principles of Kalman filter theory and ellipsoidal calculus. By means of this method, stochastic and set-membership uncertainties can be taken into consideration simultaneously. Different solutions for implementing these estimation algorithms in distributed networked systems are presented.

Abstract

While the universal quantum computer seems not in reach for the near future, this work focusses on analog quantum simulation of intriguing quantum models of light-matter interactions, with the goal of achieving a computational speed-up as compared to classical hardware. Existing building blocks of quantum hardware are used from superconducting circuits, that have proven to be a very suitable experimental platform for the implementation of model Hamiltonians at a high degree of controllability.

Abstract

The emission of dibenzofurans and dioxins from industrial processes is a major environmental concern. Focussing on dibenzofuran, this study tend to improve our understanding of the general oxidation chemistry and to provide a mechanism suitable for future modelling studies.Based on quantum chemical methods, energies, chemical structures and reactions are calculated numerically. Not only stable molecules and radicals, but also transition states are reported in this work.

Abstract

By restricting to Gaussian distributions, the optimal Bayesian filtering problem can be transformed into an algebraically simple form, which allows for computationally efficient algorithms. Three problem settings are discussed in this thesis: (1) filtering with Gaussians only, (2) Gaussian mixture filtering for strong nonlinearities, (3) Gaussian process filtering for purely data-driven scenarios. For each setting, efficient algorithms are derived and applied to real-world problems.

Abstract

Laserscanner werden in Fahrzeugen zur Umfelderfassung eingesetzt. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht, wie aus den Messungen des Laserscanners der Abstand und die Bewegung anderer Fahrzeuge bestimmt werden können. Verschiedene Ansätze zur Gruppierung der Messungen werden verglichen und hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung für Fahrzeuge bewertet. Darauf aufbauend wird analysiert, wie der Einfluss stochastischer und deterministischer Fehler auf die Bestimmung von Abstand und Bewegung minimiert werden kann.

Abstract

This thesis presents a novel approach to the experimental realization of tunable, superconducting metamaterials. Therefore, conventional resonant meta-atoms are replaced by meta-atoms that contain Josephson junctions, which renders their resonance frequency tunable by an external magnetic field. This tunability is theoretically and experimentally investigated in one-dimensional magnetic and electric metamaterials. For the magnetic metamaterial, the effective, magnetic permeability is determined.

Abstract

The topic of this publication is the design of two new set-based methods for the determination of the states of linear parameter-varying systems. These sets are computed by interval observers based on unknown but bounded inputs, outputs and parameters. The effectiveness of the methods is demonstrated by the state estimation of an induction motor that is achieved by combining the interval observers with a novel model of a voltage source inverter.

Abstract

In this work, the oxide material Li???Al?Ti???(PO?)? (LATP) is extensively investigated with the scope of using it as a solid state electrolyte. Starting with the synthesis of raw LATP material by sol-gel process, the whole production process of LATP is analyzed, including powder conditioning and sintering of ceramic samples.
