Abstract

This study essentially provides the edition and annotated translation of a historical inscription in the assembly hall of Dgung ’phur Monastery in Spu rang (Mnga’ ris, Western Tibet). The inscription deals with religious and political events in the history of Western Tibet up to the beginning of the 17th century. The introductory part of the study includes a description of the inscription’s general characteristics, a summary of its contents, an enquiry into its date and a discussion of the magistrate Mgon po skyabs, whom the inscription identifies as the “founder” of Dgung ’phur.

Abstract

The present catalogue comprises detailed descriptions of approx. 90 illuminated manuscripts and early printed books from the collection of the Upper Austrian State Library in Linz. It focuses on the art-historical classification of the presented items for which the in-depth analysis of the books’ and fragments’ decorations constitutes the main basis. Through its many findings on the origin of the described works the catalogue can be regarded as a major contribution to the research on book-illumination and book-production in the late Middle Ages; furthermore it provides the reader with a large number of newly discovered historical data.Text see: http://e-book.fwf.ac.at/o:1160

Abstract

Interdisciplinary cooperation enables the two authors to precicly localize and date one of the most lavishly produced manuscript of a medieval German epic during 15th century. With the combination of art-historical and linguistic methods the “Münchener Jüngere Titurel” (BSB, Cgm 8470) – hithero beliefed to be of Tyrolian or Vienese origin – was dated (c. 1430/35) and localised (Regensburg). The exemplary study proves the potential of cooperations within the humanities.
