In 1961, exactly 50 years after his literary debut in the Bosanska vila, Ivo Andrić received the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was included in the literary pantheon. Some still call him "South Slav Tolstoy".

The present monograph provides an inventory and a current account of about half a century of Slavic studies, Slavic research and teaching, at the German University in Prague. It assumes, in the sense of the futuristic programs of Heinrich Felix Schmid and Reinhold Trautmann (1927), Franz Spinas and Gerhard Gesemanns (1928) as well as Maximilian Braun (1949), of a comprehensive concept of Slavic, which in addition to Slavic philology the history of Slavic peoples and the history of German-Slavic spiritual-cultural relations.

This volume documents the Third Meeting of the Boys' Slaves, which took place from 30 September to 2 October 1994 in Hamburg. The meetings are understood to be workshops with a certain workshop character, the participants consciously recruit from the circle of junior slavists who are not yet habilitated and / or in a position of life. In keeping with the workshop character, contributions were also presented at the meeting which, as components of more comprehensive work or as interim results of larger projects, were not intended for publication in the given context. These are Sylke Eichler (Leipzig), Dorothee Fehrmann (Leipzig), Robert Hammel (Göttingen), Uwe Junghanns (Berlin) and Jana Schulze (Leipzig / Bautzen).
