Abstract

With the advent of high performance computing, the application areas of the phase-field method, traditionally used to numerically model the phase transformation in metals and alloys, have now spanned into geoscience. A systematic investigation of the two distinct scientific problems in consideration suggest a strong influence of interfacial energy on the natural and induced pattern formation in diffusion-controlled regime.

Abstract

Dual-phase steels exhibit good mechanical properties due to a microstructure of strong martensitic inclusions embedded in a ductile ferritic matrix. This work presents a two-scale model for the underlying work-hardening effects; such as the distinctly different hardening rates observed for high-strength dual-phase steels. The model is based on geometrically necessary dislocations and comprises the average microstructural morphology as well as a direct interaction between the constituents.

Abstract

In this book a test set for dielectric measurements at 2.45 GHz during curing of polymer composites is developed. Fast reconstruction is solved using a neural network algorithm. Modeling of the curing process at 2.45 GHz using both dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor results in more accurate model compared to low frequency modelling that only uses the loss factor. Effect of various hardeners and different amount of filler is investigated.

Abstract

Zeolite membranes have shown promising applications in catalytic and separation processes in chemical industry. A simulation-assisted design method based on experiments and simulations is shown to guide the development of hierarchically structured catalyst systems based on zeolite membranes by predicting the optimal catalyst structure. A cornerstone of this method is a 3-D pore network model – crystallite-pore network model for simulation of diffusion and reaction in polycrystalline zeolites.

Abstract

In this work, an innovative real-time microwave control approach is proposed, to improve the temperature homogeneity under microwave heating. Multiple adaptive or intelligent control structures have been developed, including the model predictive control, neural network control and reinforcement learning control methods. Experimental results prove that these advanced control methods can effectively reduce the final temperature derivations and improve the temperature homogeneity.
