Abstract

This book makes a contribution to the formulation and implementation of production cost models for the modelling of liberalized electricity markets by addressing issues associated with the level of detail in the representation of the underlying power system, the accuracy of the results and the modelling effort. To this end a production cost model was formulated and applied to estimate the short-run marginal cost of the power systems of three important European electricity markets.

Abstract

This work addresses major challenges of heart model personalization. Analysis techniques for clinical intracardiac electrograms determine wave direction and conduction velocity from single beats. Electrophysiological measurements are simulated to validate the models. Uncertainties in tissue conductivities impact on simulated ECGs. A minimal model of cardiac myocytes is adapted to the atria. This makes personalized cardiac models a promising technique to improve treatment of atrial arrhythmias.

Abstract

In this work we suggest a meta access control model emulating established access control models by configuration and offering enhanced features like the delegation of rights, ego-centered roles, and decentralized administration. The suggested meta access control model is named ''Access Definition and Query Language'' (ADQL). ADQL is represented by a formal, context-free grammar allowing to express the targeted access control model, policies, facts, and access queries as a formal language.

Abstract

While the present state of knowledge on the time dependent deformation behaviour of normal and high-strength concrete may be considered as sufficiently determined, the creep and shrinkage of lightweight aggregate (LWA) concrete, particularly of high-strength LWA concrete, can only be specified inadequately. On the basis of the experimental results a prediction model for shrinkage and creep of structural lightweight aggregate concrete was developed.

Abstract

As a contribution to environmental protection, the EU tyre label was introduced. However, the best label value does not necessarily imply the lowest rolling resistance under real operating conditions. This research work aims to develop a model to predict the rolling losses of car tyres based on standardized rolling resistance measurements. Using this model, the rolling resistance at variable operating parameters will be predicted.

Abstract

The aerodynamics of flying birds and insects plays a crucial role in the domain of aeronautical engineering. The energy-efficient construction of winglets for airplanes, the formation flight of tactical aircraft or the drone engineering or military applications are inspired by birds. This holds also for flow and structure simulation of flapping wing motion, taking the unsteady aerodynamics and corresponding wing deformations into account at high flow velocities and flapping frequencies.

Abstract

Ambitious targets for the use of renewable electricity (RES-E) have been formulated by the EU Commission and the EU Member States. Taking into account technical, economic, and ecological framework conditions of the electricity market in a model-based approach, this book provides a comprehensive, quantitative assessment of the future penetration of renewable electricity in the European electricity market.

Abstract

When complex IT systems are being developed, the usage of several programming and modelling languages can lead to inconsistencies that yield faulty designs and implementations. To address this problem, this work contributes a classification of consistency preservation challenges and an approach for preserving consistency. It is formalized using set theory and monitors changes to avoid matching and diffing problems. Three new languages that follow this preservation approach are presented.

Abstract

Software is used in many safety- and security-critical systems. Software development is, however, an error-prone task. In this work new techniques for the detection of software faults (or software ""bugs"") are described which are based on a formal deductive verification technology. The described techniques take advantage of information obtained during verification and combine verification technology with deductive fault detection and test generation in a very unified way.
