Abstract

In dieser Arbeit wurde die Relaxationsdynamik des ersten elektronisch angeregten Zustandes von Fullerid-Anionen sowie von längenselektierten CNT in Lösung mittels fs-Spektroskopie durchgeführt. Für die Dynamik der Fulleride konnten zwei Zeitkonstanten bestimmt werden, welche der elektronischen sowie Schwingungsrelaxation des Anions/Dianions zugeordnet wurden. Im Fall der CNT konnte gezeigt werden, dass ein Zusammenhang zwischen Lebensdauer des angeregten Zustandes und der Länge der CNT besteht.

Abstract

In this work, up to 80 Gbit/s monolithically integrated clock and data recovery (CDR) circuits with 1:2 demultiplexer are developed. The integrated circuits are manufactured using an InP double heterojunction bipolar transistor (DHBT) technology, featuring cut-off frequency values of more than 250 GHz. The outstanding and (to some extent) record achievements throughout the work make an essential contribution to the development of future optical telecommunication networks operating at 80 Gbit/s.

Abstract

"The objective of this chapter is to improve collaborative practices and exercises,&#xD;taking the unforeseen into account. The major focus is on the process of making&#xD;collaboration exercises and the planning phase of these potential learning situations.&#xD;Two educational perspectives will be explored in order to improve the planning&#xD;work itself and, possibly, also training for the unforeseen. The use of social&#xD;technology, together with didactic thinking, may enhance the extent and quality&#xD;of collaboration training. Planners also need to deliberate upon the importance&#xD;of “standard” or traditional exercises in combination with collaboration, seeing&#xD;the whole picture and the exercise as a program. On the other hand, it is of vital&#xD;importance to train in the realms of the unforeseen, entering the uncharted waters&#xD;of learning outside known territory."&#xD;

Abstract

Phase-field modeling has spread to a variety of applications involving phase transformations.While the method has wide applicability, derivation of quantitative predictions requires deeper understanding of the coupling between the system and model parameters. Abstract

The investigation of the interfacial phase transitions in fluid systems with short-range intermetallic interactions are of great interest. The phenomena were studied in two systems exhibiting a liquid-liquid miscibility gap: at the fluid/wall interface in fluid KxKCl1-x and at the fluid/vacuum interface of the Ga1 xBix alloys. To characterize the interfacial changes of the ultra thin films (composition, thickness and their evolution with time) the spectroscopic ellipsometry was performed over a wide spectral range. Whereas in the experiments on KxKCl1-x an existing ellipsometer could be used, a completely new UHV-apparatus including the in-situ phase modulation ellipsometer had to be developed for Ga1 xBix alloys. For the KxKCl1-x system new results on complete wetting at solid-liquid coexistence as well as in the homogenous liquid phase (prewetting) are presented. The spectra show the typical F center absorption which indicates that the film is a salt-rich phase. The thickness strongly increases approaching the monotectic from 30 to 440 nm, which is in agreement with the tetra point wetting scenario. For this interpretation a quantitative description of the excess Gibbs energy has been developed. For the Ga1 xBix system the results on complete wetting, surface freezing and oscillatory interfacial instabilities are presented. The high-precision spectra have been recorded approaching the liquid-liquid miscibility. These spectra have been modeled using a Ga-Bi effective medium approximation for the substrate covered by a film of liquid Bi. The measurements give evidence of tetra point wetting in the Ga-Bi system. First ellipsometric study of the surface freezing in Ga-Bi has been performed. Within the miscibility gap a very interesting effect of surface and bulk oscillatory instability was observed. The details of this process at present are not well understood, but a qualitative description is given.

Abstract

This book is a collection of 13 innovative papers describing the state of the art and the future perspectives in solid-phase extraction covering several analytical fields prior to the use of gas or liquid chromatographic analysis. New sorptive materials are presented including carbon nanohorn suprastructures on paper support, melamine sponge functionalized with urea–formaldehyde co-oligomers, chiral metal–organic frameworks, UiO-66-based metal–organic frameworks, and fabric phase sorptive media for various applications. Solid-phase extraction can be applied in several formats aside from the conventional cartridges or mini-column approach, e.g., online solid-phase extraction, dispersive solid-phase microextraction, and in-syringe micro-solid-phase extraction can be very helpful for analyte pre-concentration and sample clean-up. Polycyclic musks in aqueous samples, 8-Nitroguanine in DNA by chemical derivatization antibacterial diterpenes from the roots of salvia prattii, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in aater samples by bamboo charcoal-based SPE, parabens in environmental water samples, benzotriazoles as environmental pollutants, organochlorine pesticide residues in various fruit juices and water samples and synthetic peptide purification are among the applications cited in this collection. All these outstanding contributions highlight the necessity of this analytical step, present the advantages and disadvantages of each method and focus on the green analytical chemistry guidelines that have to be fulfilled in current analytical practices.

Abstract

The proposed existence of the edge and screw dislocation in the 1930s, and the subsequent work showing that dislocation theory could explain the plastic deformation of crystals, represent an important step in developing our understanding of materials into a science. The continued work involved with characterization of dislocations and linking them to a variety of physical properties in both single and poly crystals have made enormous progress over the past 50 years. It is rare to find a technical application involving a material with any crystal structure that is not impacted by dislocations; mechanical properties, massive phase transformations, interphases, crystal growth, electronic properties, the list goes on. In many systems the properties is controlled by the formation of partial dislocations separated by a stacking fault; for example plastic deformation via deformation twinning. And finally, giant strides have been made in characterization and modeling of systems containing dislocations. The Special Issue on “Crystal Dislocations” is intended to provide a unique international forum aimed at covering a broad range of results involving dislocations and their importance on crystal properties and crystal growth. Abstract

Nuclear energy is one of the most important clear energy and contributes more than 10% electric power to human society in the past decades of years. The nuclear thermal hydraulic and two-phase flow is one of the basic branches of nuclear technology and provides structure design and safety analysis to the nuclear power reactors. In the new century, the basic theoretical research of thermal hydraulic and two-phase flow, and innovative design for the next generation nuclear power plants (especially for the small modular reactor and molten salt reactor), along with other nuclear branches, constantly support the development of nuclear technology.

Abstract

For cost reasons braille displays used by the visually impaired to access digital data through the sense of touch are limited to displaying one line of text. However, by using cost effective microfluidic actuators it is possible to manufacture large-scale braille displays. This work describes the working principle and the manufacturing techniques used for fabricating components of such a display and the results of an online survey revealing the user requirements regarding braille displays.
