Abstract

How has the university been discussed between scientific mission, study and education since the beginning of the Bologna reform? The study examines this question using 1130 articles published in the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and the journal Forschung & Lehre in the period from 1999 to 2014 as examples. Thus, the connection between »research and teaching« as a description of the university tasks and its function to save and create identity, is taken into account. Furthermore, the study debates how university members and outsiders describe and evaluate the development of the university. The predominantly qualitative argumentation analyses repeatedly resort to descriptive-quantitative results to. Hence, both individual argumentation patterns and general debates around the subject of the university of the present are viewed upon.

Abstract

The Bologna Process, whose objective is the creation of an „European Higher Education Area“, should be concluded in 2010. In the last years the reactions ranged from total rejection over a more temporising attitude to clear and unambiguous affirmation. Hence, the „Fachverband Deutsch als Fremdsprache“ (FaDaF – association for German as a foreign language) has accepted the challenge to enter on the level of science policy the discussion about the higher education structural reforms as far as the subject of German as a Foreign Language (DaF) is concerned. With the help of reports on the current situation and the future of the DaF degree programmes in various European countries, contributions regarding the crucial problems of the higher education structural reforms and a position paper about the curricular basis of the BA/MA degree programmes in the field of German as a foreign language, the basic parameters of the ongoing restructuring in this subject are discussed here.

Abstract

The 100th anniversary of John Dewey's "Democracy and Education" was a valuable opportunity for the doctoral candidates of Pedagogical Sciences of the University of Bologna to observe some conceptual issues that emerge in the famous Deweyan work. They have identifyed four core themes, that were the subject of a seminar held in December 2016 at the Department of Educational Sciences "Giovanni Maria Bertin" and constitute the articulation of the four sections of this volume.

Die Konsequenzen für Universität und Gesellschaft sind noch kaum bedacht und analysiert worden. Was ist aus der modernen Universität geworden, wie sie um 1800 entworfen wurde?
