Abstract

The author examines the practice of video interrogation for children witnesses. Starting point for their empirical investigation is the question of whether the law reform is not only meant well, but can be implemented practically. Here the author builds on the regulations of the 1998 established law for witness protection, to its feasibility in terms of the intended effective protection of victims, particularly the avoidance of so-called secondary victimization (trauma), experts from the federal state of Lower Saxony - prosecutors, police and courts - report by their own experiencees. In five selected district courts of Lower Saxony, the author has also conducted an extensive document analysis on the use of video testimony, and concluded that the video technology in criminal proceedings is used rarely. In specific reform proposals „de lege ferenda“ also the recent regulations of the Law Reform Act of 2003 victims are included in the evaluative study.

Abstract

The „Flecken Adelebsen“ at the edge of the „Solling“ in southern Lower-Saxony looks back to 300 years of jewish history. In 19th century it was named “Little Jerusalem” because of the high number of jewish habitants. Today only the jewish graveyard has outlived. The aim of this documentation is to tap this “House of Living” as a new historical resource and do a part of an outstanding and necessary mourning work.

Abstract

Upper Carboniferous sandstones are important tight gas reservoirs in Central Europe. This field-based study, conducted in a km-scale reservoir outcrop analog (Piesberg quarry, Lower Saxony Basin, NW Germany), focused on the diagenetic control on spatial reservoir quality distribution. Geothermometers were used to characterize a fault-related thermal anomaly. A prototype workflow based on terrestrial laser scanning is presented, which allowed for the automated detection and analysis of fractures.

Abstract

Shoe-last celts (Dechselklingen) are characteristic legacies of the -iddle European Old and Middle Neolithic. They are important sources of economic and social archaeological investigations. This requires the determination of the used raw materials and their origin. In recent years, extensive geochemical and petrographic investigations of interchangeable blades have been carried out. Within the scope of various projects, a database with geochemical analyses of wmuch more than 500 blades and raw material pieces has been created. The analyses were all generated by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (WD-RFA). The petrographic and geochemical examination was always accompanied by a sampling of the investigated pieces, which resulted in more or less severe damage to the artifacts. The portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (P-ED-RFA), which has recently been used in archaeometric ceramic analysis, can non-destructiveally determine the geochemical composition of vascular ceramics. In contrast to all the methods used so far, the sample does not have to be prepared in the laboratory, but can be carried out directly on site in a relatively short time. Thus, a time- and thus cost-effective procedure is available.
