Chillies is a novel approach for variable model transformations closing the gap between abstract architecture models, used for performance prediction, and required low-level details. We enable variability of transformations using chain of generators based on the Higher-Order Transformation (HOT). HOTs target different goals, such as template instantiation or transformation composition. In addition, we discuss state-dependent behavior in prediction models and quality of model transformations.

The Neural Theory of Visual Attention of Bundesen, Habekost, and Kyllingsbæk (2005) was proposed as a neural interpretation of Bundesen’s (1990) theory of visual attention (TVA). In NTVA, visual attention functions via two mechanisms: by dynamic remapping of receptive fields of cortical cells such that more cells are devoted to behaviorally important objects than to less important ones (filtering) and by multiplicative scaling of the level of activation in cells coding for particular features (pigeonholing). NTVA accounts for a wide range of known attentional effects in human performance and a wide range of effects observed in firing rates of single cells in the primate visual system and thus provides a mathematical framework to unify the 2 fields of research. In this Research Topic of Frontiers in Psychology, some of the leading theories of visual attention at both the cognitive, neuropsychological, and neurophysiological levels are presented and evaluated. In addition, the Research Topic encompasses application of the framework of NTVA to various patient populations and to neuroimaging as well as genetic and psychopharmacological studies.

This study deals with the provision of software and develops an approach to the analysis and design of software deployment contexts in which software is provided centrally for many. The provision of the web-based cooperation platform CommSy in two different constellations exemplifies the necessity of such a software supply approach for understanding and designing software supply contexts. The present work provides the foundation for the business model Application Service Providing and its extension to the software provisioning approach eASP (evolutionary Application Service Providing). The business model can thus be used for IT. Through eASP, the effects and services of software provision can be taken into account in the evolutionary and participatory software development and IT-supported organization design. eASP is not understood as a model of software provision, but as a pattern that helps to understand and design a concrete software provision.

Ein Riss im Rotor ruft eine lokale Steifigkeitsänderung hervor. Die vorliegende Arbeit ermittelt die Steifigkeitsänderung einer angerissenen Welle. Dazu wird ein Kohäsivzonenmodell eingesetzt. Das Modell wurde für die erste Rissöffnungsmode bei ebenem Verzerrungszustand in Abhängigkeit der Mehrachsigkeit des Spannungszustandes (Triaxialität) entwickelt. Außerdemwird das Kohäsivzonenmodell bei einem eindimensionalen Kontinuumsrotor als FE Modell ausgeführt.

Mathematical models are useful tools to understand the epidemiology and agent-host interaction of diseases. They are developed and applied since over a century, but with increasing computer capacity, they become increasingly prominent as part of evidence based decision making. Mathematical models are frequently used to construct preparedness and contingency plans for highly contagious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease. This allows proposing effective strategies to control the spread of the disease in case of an incursion, and avails useful tools to support decision making during an outbreak. They are also used to monitor, prevent and control endemic diseases within populations or farms. In addition, mathematical models improve our understanding of the contact structure between farms, pointing out risky elements in the contact network for disease introduction or further spread within the population. This Research Topic presents valuable studies presenting different aspects and implementations of mathematical modeling for disease spread and control in the veterinary field. The areas covered include model construction, network analysis, tools for decision makers, and cost-effective control of endemic diseases.

This thesis presents the Palladio Component Model and its accompanying transformations for component-based software design with predictable performance attributes. The use of transformations results in a deterministic relationship between the model and its implementation. The introduced Coupled Transformations method uses this relationship to include implementation details into predictions to get better predictions. The approach is validated in several case studies showing the increased accuracy.

An efficient highway capacity design is becoming an increasingly important topic, thanks to recurring congestions and unreliable travel times in the German highway network. This work provides a new methodology for the analysis of oversaturated freeway facilities. A Cell Transmission Model was used as an underlying traffic flow model for modeling oversaturated freeway facilities and tailor-fitted to represent the HBS manual faithfully.
