Abstract

The data report presents the structural development of educational science and is commissioned every four years by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Erziehungswissenschaft (DGfE). The publication aims to inform the field-specialized public, education and higher education politics as well as the public about current developments in educational science as one of the largest fields at German universities. Particular attention is paid to study programs, students, degrees, human resources, research achievements and the promotion of young talents. The data report provides basic information on how educational science develops under the influence of recent changes and identifies the need for action in terms of the political field as well as higher education and education policy. Relevant information in the data report - for example on students, degrees and academic careers - is differentiated by gender. The DGfE thus fulfills its own claim to support gender equality. The data report is of particular importance for current discussions about securing training capacities for professional pedagogical professions and about academic careers. ; Der Datenreport ist eine regelmäßig alle vier Jahre von der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Erziehungswissenschaft (DGfE) in Auftrag gegebene Darstellung struktureller Entwicklungen der Erziehungswissenschaft. Abstract

Gender as a category has played and continues to play a decisive role in the formation, establishment and differentiation of the discipline of educational science. This connection has long been ignored, but Volume 5 of the Jahrbuch Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung der Erziehungswissenschaft (Yearbook Women's and Gender Studies in Educational Science) now deals with it systematically and unfolds new aspects of the history of discipline. In the contributions, the production of educational science knowledge is also analysed in the sub-disciplines and interesting theoretical accents and empirical findings are discussed in the presentation of new research projects.

Abstract

This book discusses disciplinary struggles in education from three perspectives. The chapters in the first section analyse the disciplinary character of educational practice and institutions. The second section focuses on justification of educational knowledge in transmission between theory and practice. The contributions of the third section problematise the aims and functions of educational practice and theory, which are critical for understanding the implications of disciplinary struggles in education for the future. Although the chapters focus on certain historical periods, forms and contexts of education, they provide insights, which are useful and relevant for a wider discussion in the eclectic and diverse theories and practices of education.
