DOAB Brand Guidelines

Introduction

Welcome to the official brand guidelines for the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). This page serves as a comprehensive guide for participating publishers to maintain consistency and integrity in the presentation of our brand across all communication channels.

Brand Identity

Vision Statement

Voice and Tone

When communicating about DOAB, consider the following characteristics:

  • Independent: DOAB cannot be sold or acquired
  • Not-for-profit: generous financial support from our stakeholders helps us maintain and develop our services. Without it, we could not operate as we do
  • Community-driven: feedback from our stakeholder community guides our development and enables us to provide services to support their needs
  • Global: DOAB is a service for everyone regardless of their geographical location or context.

Messaging Guidelines

DOAB is ‘co-governed’ or ‘jointly managed’ (not ‘co-owned’) by the OAPEN Foundation and [OpenEditiontext](OAPEN Foundation).

DOAB should be referred to as a free ‘directory’ or an ‘indexing service’ for OA books.

Variations of DOAB’s name should be written as follows:

  • DOAB (**no **definite article / ‘the’)
  • the Directory of Open Access Books
  • the DOAB Foundation

This short description can be used for communicating DOAB’s mission and purpose:

  • ‘The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is an independent, global, community-driven indexing service for peer-reviewed open access books. DOAB is to increase the discoverability of open access books and increase trust in open access book publishing. All DOAB services are free of charge and all data is freely available.’

DOAB is funded through the generous financial support of its services by a global network of library supporters, sponsorships from pubishers, and through the projects it’s involved in.

Consistently communicate our brand values and mission in all messaging.
