The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is a community-driven discovery service that indexes and provides access to scholarly, peer-reviewed open access (OA) books and open access book publishers. The primary aim of the service is to increase discoverability of OA books and to help users to find trusted OA book publishers. All DOAB services are free of charge and all data is freely available (CC0 1.0). While all DOAB services are free of charge and all data is freely available, we invite publishers to contribute to the sustainability of DOAB through a sponsorship.
A trusted venue for open access books
The directory is open to all publishers of academic, peer-reviewed books that are published Open Access and that meet academic standards. All publishers included in DOAB are screened for their peer-review procedures and licensing policies. DOAB collects books’ metadata, which is used to maximise dissemination, visibility and impact. Aggregators can integrate this metadata into their commercial services while libraries can do the same into their online catalogues, making it easier for scholars and students to discover publishers’ open access books.
The DOAB sponsorship may appeal to organisations that endorse a viable transition to open access for books and support innovation in scholarly publishing. DOAB’s sponsorship contributions directly support the DOAB platform and help maintain and further develop a trusted and independent venue dedicated to open access books.
